Vinita’s Answer

Not so sure about the academics in the University of both areas but there is surely difference between the towns. I lived in Ann Arbor for 9 years and worked in two different departments (Biological chemistry and cardiovascular) of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is an amazing place to live and is ranked under 5 as the best city for living in the US for several years. The University is also ranked under 10 in several fields.

Samantha’s Answer

I did not go to University of Michigan at all, I am just speaking from living in the Metro Detroit area. The key difference in my opinion is not the specific education you receive. From resume's I have reviewed, applicants have identified if they attended University of Michigan-Ann Arbor vs. Dearborn and as someone who grew up in the Metro Detroit area, I know that the qualifications you need to be accepted into Ann Arbor are significantly higher than Dearborn. Therefore, I would not see the degree the same from a resume review perspective. I think it comes down to whether or not that is important to you.

Talia’s Answer

University of Michigan Ann Arbor is the university's main campus and is more selective to get into. Their acceptance rate is lower and has a higher average GPA, test score and overall is considered more prestigious. Since they are different campus', they will offer different experiences.

University rankings differ significantly by the program you are applying for. You can check the latest rankings on usnews.com
Also, several more factors to consider while making a decision - university rank/brand value, department rank, proximity to desired industry/jobs and recruitment scenario, labs and other infrastructure, clubs and extra-curricular opportunities.
