Kyle,
With a police schedule you can definitely do both. I would focus on policing and then work on editing in your downtime. Take courses, volunteer, and learn as much as you can. YouTube is a great free platform to put your work. There are plenty of courses on coursera that could be of assistance.

Ronald’s Answer
Hi Kyle, my name is Ronald Erick and I'm a Digital Operations Manager at Visa.
I have family in the military/law enforcement and close friends in photography/videography. Law enforcement is a great way to give back directly to the community. My family in law enforcement enjoys sharing their incredible stories that they experience and the fulfillment it brings them. My friends in photography/videography enjoy the different creative aspects of their role. I personally enjoy making little videos with my family and friends during trips and other fun events. I recommend envisioning your overall purpose, goal and exploring the different fields. Create a plan with steps on how you would become a cop (i.e. speak with law enforcement, participate in community events that involve law enforcement) and if it's something you enjoy or you can envision your self doing start taking steps to take the required courses and tests. Same applies for becoming a movie editor, this is a lot easier to explore and theirs tons of articles and videos that can help you explore this world. Keep trying, perfecting your craft, and most importantly enjoy what you do! Who knows, you may be the next big movie editor or successful cop!
Wishing you the best of luck!
Sincerely,
Ron
