Do 4 Dual Enrollment courses senior year of high school look bad?

Since my school was only offering AP classes in person, and due to covid I could not risk going, I decided to opt out and instead take 4 dual enrollment classes (since all DE classes are completely online.) Would this look bad on my college application / not look academically "rigorous"? #college #college-admissions #dual #ap #college-advice #student #DE

I have to agree with everyone else. These are very unusual times.

What you should do is promote your dual enrollment as demonstrating personal tenacity and creative solution of seeking uninterrupted higher education when being in close quarters was risky. Every University and Corporation is constantly looking for people that meet a challenge head on and overcome it creatively, instead of giving up.

Well done!

Hello Shana - We are living in unprecedented times right now. Many people lives, work and school have been in an upheaval. With that said, most colleges and universities ask you to apply, but also to provide an introduction letter and / or other attachments to support your admission. I would recommend providing the details for your choice with your information. It can never hurt to explain in greater detail.

Anna’s Answer

It is impressive that you took on dual enrollment classes to replace Advanced Placement courses that were not available to you. In your college application essay or short answer portion, describe the school offerings that were available to you (via distance learning) and how you overcame limited offerings to maintain a strong academic schedule. Congratulations on being flexible and agile during a challenging school year.

Because of the unprecedented times we are in with Covid, you will not have any negative response to your approach to taking AP classes on-line. Good luck on your application process and go for it!

Great question, and I agree with the other pros. Showing adaptability is important when applying to college and I believe you're doing just that by identifying a positive way to stay challenged when AP classes are not an option due to COVID.
