Hi Ian:
I have known many lawyers who majored in poly sci. Generally, any major which allows you to think critically and gives you an opportunity to learn to write clear and convincing papers/reports is great preparation for law school.
I also agree with Michael's advice, and would also suggest you try to meet with or speak with someone in your college's career development department. They should be a good resource for you in determining what types of law schools there are and what the requirements are for you to be accepted to law school in your country. The career development office may also have a list of alumni from your school who went to law school and who could discuss the process of applying to law school and practicing law in your country. I have found that speaking with someone who knows your school and who is now in a career that you are considering is a great way to better understand what you need to do to for a certain career path. Alumni may also have helpful hints regarding courses you may want to take which could give you a better understanding of certain areas of the law or they may be aware of internship opportunities which can also give you a real world understanding of what it is to work in certain legal environments.
I hope this has been helpful and wish you the best of luck as your pursue your legal career!

Hi Ian: Of course! Lawyers come in all different sizes shapes and from all different backgrounds! In fact, the different backgrounds help make better lawyers. However, I agree with both Michael and Elizabeth. You need to sit with your school counselor to help select the best path forward. Every Country has their own rules about becoming a lawyer. Check with the counselor to make sure you follow the correct rules to reach your goal!
