Is there a different VISA Process for International students with healthcare related jobs? or do we have to do the lottery system with H1 B also?
I am a nursing student and it doesn't count as a STEM degree so I only have one year of OPT

When you apply for H-1B, your goal should be to differentiate from others. Its a work visa and so think of how your work (whether it is healthcare industry job or software industry job) meets the needs of the industry in US and fills the demand/supply gap. If healthcare industry has all the jobs filled up by US citizens, the industry will not have a need to search for non-US folks. I believe there is a shortage of folks with nursing background at this time and the companies would love to offer H1B to them. You will have to find employers who will file H-1B for healthcare workers.

Essentially, the cap exempt jobs include not for profit / government research organisations. Hence, you would still have to go through the lottery. Although, you would have a higher chance in being picked depending on whether you have a master's degree from a US based institution. This is because 20000 visas are reserved for master's students.

Hi Hargun!
H1 B is a lottery based visa with yearly caps. All applicants with undergraduate degrees, from art majors to engineering are part of the same lottery. The only way to get a bit of an edge is to have a master degree as recent changes in the visa system have increase the cap for applicants with graduate degrees and basically there's a preference for higher degree applicants.
Hope this clarifies it a little bit.
Good luck!
