Brian’s Answer
I’ll give you a better answer.
As a Union Steamfitter/Welder that mostly welds on jobs, I work anywheres from 40 hours (minimum) to 60 hours per week depending on the job and what overtime could be required.
As far as pay, hopefully my answer will be better. Starting off in a Union such as mine. Our total package, which includes wage and fringe benefits, is around $100/hr. The take home per hour is $52. The remaining $48/hr covers health and welfare, vacation fund, pensions, annuity. A first year apprentice starts just under $20/hr take home with a total package of $38/hr.
Now, with that being said, I am located in NY. Wages and fringe benefits are different all over the country within this particular trade union.
