So in general there are a lot of pretty easy ways to get into the food industry. It really depends what part of it you want to get into. Below are a couple ways to get specifically involved in restaurants. For any position in the industry you will want to do some research about the places that you think might interest you. If you apply, it is always a plus in an interview to show you have taken time to learn a little about what the specific business does.

Cooking: Look for restaurants in your neighborhood and surrounding areas that you like or think are interesting. Yelp & Opentable.com are good quick ways to see if a restaurant interests you. If it does, take a look at their website and try to learn a little about the place. Send an email with a resume if you have one saying you're interested in working in the kitchen. You should be prepared to take a lower level position given your lack of experience. Those jobs include: prep cook, salad/pantry cook, dishwasher, etc.

Guest Service in Restaurant: Same process as the above. Entry positions include busperson, foodrunner, host/hostess.

It is best to get in the industry as soon as possible if you would like to have a career in the food industry! Promotions are often based on how much you have learned and how hard you have been working so the sooner you start the better.
