I'd say the most challenging thing is- you kind of have to develop a "thicker skin" when it comes to certain clients. Even being a wonderful stylist, there are (unfortunately) some people that will always find something to be unhappy about; even when you give them exactly what they ask for. You have to really learn how to handle people that are irritated and upset with calmness communication and patience. Aside from that, make sure you pay attention in cos school and ask any and all questions you have so you can be prepared when you graduate. Being a cosmetologist is very rewarding, and can be a lot of fun as well.
I hope this helped and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions about cos!

I feel the most challenging thing in being a Cosmetologist is listening to understand, with effective communication.
Clients are looking for you as a professional to listen and fix their hair problems.
Often we jump the conversation into just doing without effective communication and consultation.
As a new stylist I had a client come in, she said " I want my hair cut "over" my ear. I said cool I can do that easy.. what I didn't clarify was what "over" ment to her. I cut "over" she ment "covering over" and was very very angry. I deserved the anger, as a professional it was my responsibility to dig deeper, listen better, and clarify the exact cut she was asking for. Huge lesson learned that day. "I never made that mistake again"
