Cleopatra’s Answer

I enjoy working with computers and technology because I learn something new every day and that is inspiring. The pace of change in technology is so rapid it requires you to stay curious, constantly practice and unlearn old information and habits. Working with computers and technology also sparks innovation so if you are someone who likes to try new things or if you like to find problems to solve you should try this field of study and work.

What I like about cybersecurity and IT in general is that it is both kind of trade job and degree job. People without a degree can get roles without going to college by getting certifications and going to coding bootcamps. People with a college degree can get a job depending on their skillset.

The main perks are working remotely, hybrid, low colocation, or on-site jobs. You are very flexible here. The work life balance is one of the best. I was a pre-med major before I switched to cybersecurity.

You are always learning on the job. New technology comes out, new vulnerabilities, new areas of growth.

Shane’s Answer

I enjoy the continuous journey... the exploration of how technology can make my life easier and how I can help others make their lives easier. Learning how to use a new App is not the same as learning how the app impacts your life and how you can push the boundaries of it's impact. Getting under-the-hood and understanding the data and tech structures helps you understand where you can push - helps you blur the lines of what you do and what the technology supporting you does.

There's also the fun aspect of teaching other people how to use simple tech. Small steps can seem like magic but helping people understand how to take those steps themselves is very rewarding. As low-code and no-code development environments grow and become more common, IT specialists will become more critical as helpers to the citizen-developer-brigade within companies and teams.
