Hi Reetu!
Assuming you are an Indian citizen and don't qualify for a green card anytime soon, you ideally have 3 options-
First option - The most realistic one based on my experience is by pursuing higher education in the US. After you graduate from your bachelor's program, I would highly recommend going for a masters degree under STEM. This is by far the most realistic and probable option to get a job in the US and in a location of your choice since you will be working on student visa and won't need a work visa for at least 3 years.. If you're looking for a job in New York, it's recommended that you go to a university on the east coast, but not necessary.
Second option - In your penultimate year of graduation from bachelors, you can directly apply to firm in new york, and if you do end up being selected, they will enroll you in H-1B (work visa application). The H-1B process is difficult and only 1 in 4 get a work visa. So if a company selects you and you do get your H1B, then you can come to the US to work.
Third option - You can get a job in India with a company which has a counterpart in the US. Eventually, you can express your interest in transferring to the US location and provided you do get your H-1B work visa, you will be able to relocate.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more clarity.
Best of luck!

An option is that you can study Engineering / Computer Science for your undergrad in India and then get a job at a multi-national company through campus interviews or independent job applications. Once you get a couple years of experience, you can transfer internally within the company to go to New York.

Best option would be after completing your computer science bachelors, go for MS in US. You may have to start preparing for this from your final year of graduation.
If you specifically want to stay in New York, choose university near to New York.
Once you finish your MS, you can apply for job there.

Hi Reetu,
Glad to see you are so forward-looking!
Two options on top of my head:
1. Get enrolled in a university in the U.S. (not necessary NYC) and then try to land a job post-study in a company NYC-based.
2. Get a job in a multi-national company starting at an Indian office and then request the transfer to NYC office later assuming it has footprint in NYC.
Either one is definitely possible (option 1 worked for me) given your best efforts. However, just keep in mind that there might be other factors in the way, pandemic, work visa, just to name a few.
Good luck!🤞🏽

Securing a visa for relocating to the US can indeed be a bit of a hurdle. However, it's not impossible! A great plan would be to finish your computer science degree in India first. Then, start exploring universities in the vibrant city of New York, USA, where you might want to set up your new life.
Take a good look at the application requirements for these universities for your Master's degree. Once you've got a clear understanding, gear up for the entrance exams. Securing a spot in the university will help you obtain a student visa.
After completing your Master's, you'll find that many colleges offer a work visa. This will open up the opportunity for you to work with prestigious firms. Once you have your work visa, you can confidently start applying for jobs. Remember, every step you take is bringing you closer to your dream. Keep going!
