David’s Answer

That's one thing to do, "flipping" houses. That has become a trend recently for individuals or small teams. However there are more "corporate" jobs in real estate too, dealing with large commercial properties or lots of smaller ones.

Other areas of real estate:
Renting out houses, apartments--individuals can buy a house or apartment building and rent it out themselves
Managing rentals--some property owners prefer to pay someone else to deal with the day-to-day aspects, paying them a percentage of rent. There are property-management companies that do this, often local to the area.
Commercial real estate--leasing out commercial space to businesses; some of these are big businesses. You may have heard of Westfield, Simon Property Group...but there are small local ones as well.
Real estate development--buy the land then build houses, apartments, or commercial buildings to sell rent or lease. You may have heard of William Lyon, Pulte Homes...but there are small local ones as well. Donald Trump is a kind of real estate developer.
Real estate sales agent--usually when you buy a house, there is an agent involved that handles the paperwork and stuff; usually the agent takes a percentage of the sale price (commission) as their pay. You may have heard of Coldwell Banker, Max Re, others....but there are small local ones as well.

Jennifer’s Answer

Commercial real estate (CRE) is property that is used exclusively for business-related purposes or to provide a workspace rather than as a living space. Commercial real estate is leased to companies and they use it run their businesses. Its a great field of work to go in.
