I concur with Don Lewis's answer. There is a large need for information security professionals globally. In the United States, there are concentrations of jobs on the east and west coasts but any major city will have opportunities. Keep in mind that many positions in this field are available without relocation as remote work is a prevalent option. The pandemic has only accelerated that trend.

Hi Jacob, If you're asking what industries and locations need InfoSec (IS) analysts, I would say that every industry in all locations has a need for this. Just do a Google search for recent ransomware campaigns or other data breaches, and you'll see it's not just financial institutions or hospitals where hackers are trying to steal valuable information such as Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or credit card and banking information, but InfoSec is important to the country's power grid and water and fuel supply, our food supply chain and more. Nation-State malicious actors try to target our infrastructure to bring our economy to a halt by gaining accees to systems and causing supply-chain disruptions. Hackers who deliver malware in the form of Ransomware want to get paid by breaching a network and holding a database for ransom; and then demand payment from the organization in order to restore the data to them.

If you're asking what locations have a concentrated number of companies that provide InfoSec products and services, these are found in regions like San Jose, CA ("silicon valley") and San Francisco, CA; Orange County, CA ("tech coast"), San Diego, CA, Boston, MA, Washington D.C. and Virginia area too.

I agree with the previous answers but will add a word of caution. If you are relocating to a new city for a job don't jut chase the highest paying salary. Consider cost of living and your lifestyle. You might get paid more in a particular city than another, but perhaps your commute will be 3hrs/day roundtrip due to the rent prices near your job location.

I agree with all the other answers here. I would like to add that if you're more interested in the importance of the job than a great big salary, I would recommend you consider working in cybersecurity for a government. Whether in the United States or abroad, governments have a huge challenge to defend their nation in cyberspace. These jobs are challenging, but they really matter. You get to work with the smartest people, the best machines, and the hardest problems. Plus, you end up with a good work / life balance because you cannot bring the work home!

As Chris mentioned, there are more positions that are remote and might not be location specific moving forward. To break into Cybersecurity field, it might be advisable to have entry level certification in security and projects related to security that you can show via Github will help

Every industry has a need for Info Security! Cyber crimes are rising and no industry is spared from a possible attack. Many companies are offering remote positions now and there isn't a need to move. If you do choose to move, choose a place that you would want to live even if you didn't have your job.
