What are the hours like as a doctor?
If I can't become a teacher I want to be a doctor. I really do love kids but I will become a doctor if not

I was actually an elementary ed teacher before I became a nurse. I think that you need to determine what direction that you want to go in first. I always loved the medical profession and began working in the nursing home when I was a teenager. I chose the direction of teaching which I did for 5 years and then went back to become a nurse and I have never looked back! You may want to volunteer working with children or in a hospital to see what you really enjoy doing. Good luck!

80-100 hours per week during residency. During medical school and residency, you won’t be in control of your own schedule which makes family time difficult to obtain. However, after training, you can be in more control and can choose what practice to join based on your needs. You can work less and have more time for family at the cost of making less money and possibly consulting on less interesting cases. Some physicians continue to work 80 hours per week. I know a dermatologist who only works 3.5 days per week.
