what does someone need or do in order to get into prop production in the entertainment industry
Hi im Jacob, I go to Phillip and Sala Burton High school, and I was wondering how can I get into prop making or anything that has to do with film. I know a few things about it and I've made a few props that my class has actually used before for their film projects, but I'm not really sure what else to do from here. #film

I'm in a totally different field, but I do know a good resource for that industry is to look up things that Jamie and Adam from the Mythbusters put online - they're both originally from a props and effects background, and have spoken at length about their careers and how to get into that sort of work. Adam's Youtube channel (Tested) is particularly good for that sort of thing.

Firstly, I would say you should start working on actual movies that are being made locally. In San Francisco, you should be able to find groups / cooperatives that make movies. Once you get onto a movie, you can specialize in props. As you gain experience and network with movie-making folks, you'll get better and hopefully get bigger and bigger opportunities.
