What careers can you have if you have musical theater degree?

I’m a senior at Dayspring christian school. I enjoy reading, musical theater, writing, history, helping people, telling people about God, and sports. I have not decided what I would like to do as a career after high school. #creative-writing #writing #college #journalism #football #helping-people #sports #history

Very good question Kaden. With the degree you are working towards, there are many types of careers you may qualify for or get into. You can be a Producer, a Dancer, a Actor , Musician, Music director and the list goes on. It all depends what your passion is in and as you mentioned speaking to others about God. Maybe working for a congregation and be a musical fellowship director.

Tom’s Answer

Hi there,

The answers above are all good and all helpful, but one that I hope would get your mind geared toward thinking in a positive manner is this: You are bound by nothing. What I mean by this is that in your senior year it is important to think about where you want to go, what you want to do, and what direction you want to take, but keep in mind that you're not locked into anything, you have a choice to make, and while that might not make things any easier (it's not supposed to after all), you still have every possibility to make the choice that you want, that will benefit you the most and satisfy you in the long run. Looking at your interests there is a wide array of jobs you could lean toward, but if you have any passion for writing, I'd always be willing to help. But if you enjoy musical theater, there are many, MANY opportunities out there, so long as you're willing to earn your way up. If you really want it, if this is your passion, then you'll find a way to make it happen.

Best of luck to you,
Tom Foster

Michael’s Answer

Hi Kaden C! Congratulations on being a senior and good luck with the rest of the school year. I always recommend seeking careers in something you like to do. One of the biggest mistakes young people make is looking at the prize and not looking at the path. Ask a lot of questions. If theater is your thing, try to meet people who work in theater and ask them how they got where they are today. The path people take is often not a straight line. Take a look at this link (https://getintotheatre.org/blog/complete-list-of-jobs-in-theatre-industry). Notice there are many, many jobs that you can do in theater and some of these may be stepping stones to where you hope to be in this industry. Also, you may find out that something else, but related to theater, interests you. For example - Set Designer. There are many universities, colleges or technical schools that could prepare you for this work or...it could lead to a career in interior design, fashion design, who knows. If you don't want to continue your education (I highly recommend it), find a local theater and volunteer. Good luck in your future and enjoy life to the fullest!
