Gina’s Answer
Hello Anthony!
My name is Gina Roca and I'm an Architecture graduate student at the University of Florida. Here are some tips on the best way on how to enter the architecture career from experience and recommendation of professors, faculty, and architecture professionals:
1. The first thing you want to look into is the university or institution you want to attend to receive your education and licentiate in your profession. It is important to have this because even though you can have some education and still work in the architecture field, a license is needed to approve designs and process some other things.
2. Speak with current architects to understand their journey and how they applied once they received their education or see if some got the opportunity even before that so you can compare those different options.
3. Go to seminars or job fairs to learn more about the different positions an architect can have in the industry. These are also great areas to network and learn more about the field.
4. Reach out to college fairs at the college institution and see if they offer any positions that may be related to the field or that may help you find your voice in the field better.
5. Go in person to firms or local businesses that work with architects to perhaps do internships so that you can get some experience in the field and if everything goes well you could be offered a position with that company.
Hope these ideas help bring some clarity to your question!
Best regards,
Gina Roca

Dan’s Answer
Hi Anthony
I agree with what Vandana said in her answer, you can go to a college and get a degree in Architecture. The schooling is your best path forward and a great place to start.
Also you can try to find a job as an intern at an existing engineering firm, this will allow you to learn on the job while completing the required schooling. A mix of field and school in my humble opinion is the best way to be well rounded in your field.
Best of Luck.

I agree with Dan. Internship is the most important part of starting a career while you learn. Many architectural firms provide summer internships or part-time year-round if you're skilled at a graphic program or two.
