Adam,
Get a job in a restaurant/catering/hotel to see if you like the profession. Work at least 2 years before going to a culinary school to make sure you want to be a chef and have passion for the profession. Being a Chef is nights, weekends and holidays. Pay is low in the early years. But if you love the profession, you can really thrive in it. Find out what you love to do and do it! Don’t worry about money in the early years, just focus on learning. Be early and stay late to learn. A great way to start is working for a catering company. Then take a weekend cooking class. School is important, so keep your studies up! Math, English, a second language and science are used everyday in our industry!
Cheers and best of luck!

Adam,
Do some research into the culinary schools in your area. Talk to people that have graduated from them. Having said that, you can also get a job in a restaurant. You may have to be a dishwasher at first. Once you have some experience there you can then move up to a better place. Learn as much as you can. Try to work some where for 1-2 years. Then move on to another good place. I have no idea what segment of the industry that you are interested in. The important part is that you work for some one that is good in that segment. Culinary schools are wonderful, but expensive. Your first jobs in the industry will not pay much. Even if you have a degree from a culinary school. Chef's appreciate culinary school graduates because it shows their commitment to the industry. You still need to gain experience in the field. Your degree from the culinary school might get you in the door, but Chef's usually pay based on the job experience.
I hope this was of some help to you Adam.
