What’s it like to be a creative director or a game designer in a company ?
I love to come up with new ideas and being creative. However, I want a career that I can also make a good amount on as well. So being a creative director of a game designer seems just up my alley. Any experience/ advice to give? #art #game-design #design #design #creativedirector

Hi Desiree,
It's important to make sure you understand the differences between being a creative director and being a game designer or even a creative specialist. Creative directors often lead teams across advertising agencies or in-house for marketing departments, and they work with the creative team to create, plan and deliver a strategic vision for clients. They work on hiring and developing a team of creative specialists.
A creative director also often determines the creative vision of a brand or project and works to maintain a cohesive look and feel of a project (or approves it). A creative director also establishes budgets and timelines and manages client relationships, along with the the account managers. What I am trying to say is they are involved with the planning and supervising the entire creative process, but they are often not involved in the day-to-day creative activities. Being a senior game designer or a creative specialist will allow you to do more creative work more than being a creative director, while also getting enough $$. Creative directors are also very good communicators, project managers, people managers, and not necessarily the most creative person in the room.
