Stephanie’s Answer

Hi Katlyn,

As a teacher, yes you have background checks. It wouldn't be appropriate for someone who has committed a serious crime - especially crimes against children - to work with or teach children. The background check is a common protection tool - all teachers have had to do at least one in their life!

Esther’s Answer

Hi Katlyn,

When I went to schools to observe teachers in the classroom for my master's in education degree, I had to go through a background check. In addition to asking for my personal information and social security number, my finger prints were also recorded and checked against the FBI criminal database. This process helps to keep students and other teachers safe!
