Jana’s Answer

Hello De'Asia: Medical doctors (pediatricians) and nurses have two different educational paths. In simple terms, if you would like to pursue a degree in medicine, your first step is a bachelor's degree preferably in a related field like pre-med, biology, chemistry, or physics. Next is four years of medical school followed by taking your licensing exam (MD/DO). If you want to specialize in pediatrics, you will need to have a pediatric residency at a hospital.

If you want to become a nurse, you would apply to a college who has nursing as a major. A bachelor degree in nursing can be completed in four years. Following that, you must successfully complete your licensing exam (RN). If you decide to go further, you could apply to graduate school to become an advanced practice nurse (or nurse practitioner) specializing in pediatrics. This degree will allow you to write prescriptions and see patients independently. There are programs where you can receive a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Another words, you can be a doctor in nursing. The DNP is the doctoral program with a clinical focus.

Pediatricians are physicians. So complete high school then get a bachelors degree from colllege. Attend medical school then do a residency.
