Rebecca’s Answer

Hi, I am not sure how old you are. Are you eligible to work in your country?
Usually, there are different part time jobs are available, e.g. fast food shops, supermarkets, sales in retail store, babysitters, tutors in education centre, etc. On the other hand, you can also search in part time job in your school, e.g. librarian assistance, etc.
Do you have any technology skills? You can also try to be search any opportunities to be part time developers, technology support, etc.
Is there any reason you would like to look for part time jobs? Is there any financial reason or you would like to gain some working experience? Firstly, please ensure the job is suitable for your age and safe, i.e. it does not require any special training / skills, etc. On the other hand, if you have financial problem, I suggest you to discuss with your parents. School works is always your priority.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
Thank you comment icon I'm a 17 year old female. I was currently doing matric. And as a young and determined individual I am extremely interested in any job that will teach me to become independent and firm in a place of work. Noluthando
Thank you comment icon Hi Noluthando, thank you for your comment. To be an independent and firm, it is not necessary to find a job. It is more subject to your mindset. However, you can acquire working experience, team work, etc. when you are working. Since you are a metric student, you can continue your study. You can work on part time basis or as an interim during your summer vacation. Rebecca Tang

Noluthando -

No matter the industry there is always some type of part time work available. From retail, to food service to craftsmen, to sales. Depending on your skill set, your intertest and your drive, I am certain you can find a part time job. With that said, the more you know the more options you will have. For example, if you are good a math you can be a tutor, if you are proficient in MS Excel and/or MS Word you can work in an office, if you know how to cook you can work in a restaurant. Part time jobs can also help you to gain experience for a future career, so I strongly urge you to look for a part time job in that industry that you are interested in. It is never too early to start building your professional network that may help you land a job in your chosen field. Even if you discover you dislike a field that you thought you might be interested in, that is useful information and will save you time and effort. No matter what job you get, always remember that honesty, hard work and determination will lead to a positive work experience for you and your employer.

Rahila’s Answer

Hi Noluthando,

When I was in high school/college, I had a few different part-time jobs. Most were working retail like a shopping mall or salon. I made most of the connections through my family and their friends. I also had the opportunity to work at my college as a part time administrative assistant.
