As with most things, it depends...
"It depends on what aspect of civil engineering you choose. For a construction position, it would be out in the field, reviewing the day’s activities, going over the safety, materials crew etc. or as an inspector one would measure work completed and note deficiencies or issues. On design side, might spend time performing calculations or creating drawings. As one moves up in any area it's becomes more a role of over sight of others and time spent coordinating with other disciplines or client meetings.
