Pursuing a career in the arts is a great move - most singers, actors, artists, etc. are following their passions ... and that's the foundation of a full, happy work life. Of course, this type of life still offers all the challenges of any career - ups and downs, discouraging times and the accompanying opportunity to push past all the 'noise' until you've reached your goals.

There are alot of great US schools with strong music programs, many of which include vocal degrees. If you want to stay close to home in North Carolina, here's a link to some of the best music schools there: https://www.niche.com/colleges/search/best-colleges-for-music/s/north-carolina/

However, if you're open to schools in other states, there are wonderful universities in New York, Pennsylvania and elsewhere - here's a link to 50 great affordable music and arts colleges: https://www.greatvaluecolleges.net/affordable/art-music/

Truthfully, though ... many fine arts students find training outside of college just as helpful in developing their talent and establishing their careers. Most actors and singers study weekly in order to 'hone their craft' so it's also recommended to explore strong vocal coaches regardless your college choice.

All the best with your singing career - l look forward to being a fan in the years ahead!

You don't NEED to attend any college. If you are super professional, friendly, and make connections in your community you could make just as good a living as you would with schooling and you won't be in debt. Schooling offers two big things, one is that it provides a space where you can be totally dedicating yourself to your craft which is good for people who might lack the motivation to practice 8 hours a day on their own (most people). Second of all is it connects you to a lot of upcoming musicians in your companions and teachers. Both are really important but not strictly speaking necessary. I know a ton of amazing musicians who didn't go to school.

This is a great question, I have a great friend that went into the music field and the course of action he took has work for him. He received a degree from Columbia College in Chicago, IL. The program encompassed a lot of the business behind the music (business management, production, business models, ETC), he specialized in audio engineering which gets you in the door with production companies, how to create, edit and produce music. this helped him to launch his career and work with marketers to get his name out and he has been quite successful. I hope this helps!!! Start small and understand what you really want to accomplish, research schools like Columbia College, look for interns and production companies to gain exposure and see if it is really a fit for you.
