My partner picked up sewing and tailoring as a hobby during the pandemic and found Craftsy to be a really great resource for learning different techniques with their video instructional courses. You might start with simple designs and easy fabrics first by figuring out how to work with patterns (t-shirts, tank tops, pajama pants etc. in cotton, linen, muslin, non-stretch fabrics). As you work with more fitted garments, you might want to take measurements of a friend or family member to use as a model. Make clothes for your mom or friends or siblings that help you refine your skills and just push the boundary of what you know.
Then you can get in to more stretch fabrics, making alterations, and more complex designs.
A decent sewing machine is a must and then a serger/overlocker machine once you start working with more stretch fabrics (differential feeds are a game changer). Best of luck!
