Hi Jaquan: Being a police officer is a tough tough job! You put your life on the line and everybody is waiting to critize you for how you do your job. A police officer has to be a social worker, a counselor, a lawyer and a law enforcer all the time. I am a lawyer, so this answer is skewed toward the law. The future trends of police work seem to be leaning toward technology and reform. The police forces seem to be reforming to adopt a more community structured force so officers are familar with the people they police. The inside officers are relying on computers and webcams to track criminals. As a student, I'd look into technology courses and sociology courses to help you. Also look into John Jay College in NYC where there is a concentration of courses designed to help future police officers. Good luck, stay safe and remember, police officers lead by example!

Thomas’s Answer
I see the future of policing to involve reform, community engagement , de-escalation and some of the mental health calls being a combination of mental health professionals and referrals working alongside the officers. Technology and computer literacy also being utilized in the analysis of criminal data and other programs such as shot spotter and neighborhood surveillance cameras.

Right now no one really knows. There were a lot of community councils that defunded their police departments only to now refund and give bonus to recruiting. A society can not work with laws and people to enforce those same laws. The way to return this profession around is with community policing. Everyone is evolved.
