Malavika’s Answer

Hi Ahmed! The major you choose will pertain to what your interests are in the business field. Most of the subjects/courses for these majors often overlap or cover similar topics across the other ones. Your given choices seem to align more with the industry or departmental field you would like to go for. For example, business administration will cover mostly topics related to how a business works and the kind of decision making procedures that are involved, whereas economics will provide you an insight to the market. While Finance and Banking may focus more on the banking sector, you will still need to understand the international trade and economical aspect of finance and business.

Ultimately, your choices will boil down to what your interests are in the finance / business field - are you looking to create financial models or are you looking for a banking role, does working on an international scale interest you, do you want to understand the manufacturing process and work in the financing of various products / services, is it owning a business that is interesting to you...these are just a few questions that you will have to answer for yourself when picking a major.

I suggest you do a little bit of research into these courses / electives of these majors in the universities you are applying / want to apply to - this might help you find any differences or overlaps after answering some of the above questions. This may help you narrow down the major that is most interesting to you and which aligns with your work ambitions.

Bobbi’s Answer

Hi Ahmed! I think very highly of you that you are putting some serious thought into a specific major. I believe that it is important to become as specialized as possible as that would likely help you with securing a good job once you graduate. However, it is important to go after something that you have a passion and interest for. Your career will last you throughout a majority of your lifetime, therefore, I believe you should pursue a career path that you find challenging, motivating, and rewarding.

Best of luck to you!

Bobbi

Mark’s Answer

Your question, in itself, is a great learning opportunity. The answers provided are all correct and provide good guidance. The reason they cannot target YOU specifically if because it is an open-ended question. If you had framed it around a specific function or even a particular goal, such as operating an installation business that serves locations outside of your base country, then you can get information that targets your goal/need.

That said, the first question you must answer yourself is "what aspect of business would make me the most excited to get out of bed in the morning?". If the thought of crunching numbers and devising fiscal budgets makes your blood pump faster, then pursuing a Finance-related field is where you start your exploration. If tackling the logistics of running multiple offices in various countries (or dealing with suppliers from various nations) sounds exciting, then international business is your line of study. You want to be the one who has specialists relaying the information from these various departments/functions to you so you can make strategy decisions? Then Management is a great choice of study.

Think about what area grabs your attention and won't let go and that is where you start. Keep in mind that you may find your real strengths lie in another area, but no journey begins without that first step.

Robert’s Answer

Ahmed H.
It's interesting that you are seeking information about your future. I took the roundabout way to my career change. You should talk to a counselor, conduct a career survey, or even visit a college of your choice to investigate your career.
Statistical background is an effective way to start, analytical, or project management would be good to get into also.
No matter what you do, you will do the best you can at it, and control your own destiny. Don't listen to the people who tell you that you can't do something. You are better than that. learn as much as you can, be versatile also, the more you can bring to the table the better.

Hope this helps you
