You didn't specific what kind of mechanic and best locations could be very different between auto, aircraft, marine, or industrial.

You'll also want to consider how much it costs to move to another city as well as how much you earn there compared to how much it costs to live there. Often you'll find that in the highest paying cities you'd still save less since it's much more expensive to live there.
