James’s Answer

Most definitely! The sooner you learn and get into the trade the better. Look into a four year school if that's the route you want to take. I'm an instructor at a trade school. Trade schools are where the future is. Faster paced and shorter than their expensive counterparts. Try to find one that offers an associates degree of you can. I welded for 10 years before I decided to go to school. I'm sure glad I did but wish I would've done it sooner. No matter what the economy is like, someone ALWAYS needs a welder. Just remember it's only an inconvenience for a little while. Learn something from every weld you make.

James recommends the following next steps:

Look for a good school; trade or other
Set up an appointment to meet and take a tour
Repeat with another school
Decide which one you want to go to
Commit to one and celebrate your future

John’s Answer

I am married, live in a nice neighborhood 30 minutes north of Charlotte, NC, and have 3 cars, all paid for. We have money in the bank, and all of our bills are paid. To answer your question, yes, a welding career can most certainly pay off. To add to that, no school loans to pay off.
