Enrique’s Answer

Some hobbies to try at home would be sketching outside your surroundings and figuring out how to design within the external elements. You could also find materials laying around your house and creatively explore how those materials could be a part of structures. Also do some research and read up on the various styles/types of architecture out there. Architecture is a wonderful world of many possibilities!

Enrique recommends the following next steps:

Read up on types of Architecture
Experiment with materials
Draw out designs in different locations

Hi Arianna, Along with Mr. Dominguez's ideas on learning materials and drawing, I believe learning software skills will be beneficial too. Programs like Photoshop, SketchUp, and 2D or 3D CAD would all help you focus on concepts related to architecture. In addition, I'd recommend checking out/following different Architectural accounts on yt and ig. Here are some helpful sites too:
1) https://smallprojects.architectsjournal.co.uk/ajsp/en/page/home
2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqMOrRUHcGg
3) https://www.architecturaldigest.com/.

I hope this helps! Ashlee

ALEXANDER’s Answer

You won't use this skill very much in the actual practice of architecture later on in your career, but definitely learn how to draw free hand. Take a drawing course, or go to live model drawing classes, or take art classes. This will train your brain to think on the right side (creative side) of the brain which is an essential part of being an architect. Plus, its so much fun!
