Is an undergraduate Community Music Program, a good transition into music education?

Hi, I'm a senior in High School, looking to pursue music education. This certain program that I found, which I meet the credentials for, offers students the learning experience of music in community groups and increases leadership. This is the only program I can get into with my level of Piano and Theory for music. I want to get into music as fast as I can. Do you think this sort of program can be a good transition into music education or should I focus on majoring on a certain instrument such as the piano? #education #music #music-education

It really depends on where you want to pursue your career. If it is through an independent music education company I would recommend you make a few calls and go on some information interviews to find out what credentials they look for. If you are interested in becoming a music teacher in the traditional education system like a private or public school board you will need to pursue your undergraduate degree and complete teachers college. Good luck!

Without knowing the details of the curriculum of the particular program you are looking at, in general I would say yes. That is also a good way for you to get a feel of what it really takes to be a music educator, and not just teaching music has a hobby. I'd say, go for it!
