Carl’s Answer

Hello Voc E. It sounds like you want to know how to become an entrepreneur in the field of cosmetology. Many people find that to be a rewarding experience. There are many paths you can take to accomplish this. You can open up your beauty salon. This would involve finding a building, getting permits from the local government to operate your business, possibly renting booths to other beauticians that can work in the salon, starting a marketing campaign to draw business to your salon. You can also be a cosmetologist that works in the entertainment industry. You may be asked to exclusively work on the hair of a specific person or a set of people. I hope this gives you a picture of what you could expect in the business of cosmetology. Please review my next steps to help get you on the path of a cosmetology entrepreneur.

Carl recommends the following next steps:

Visit a local salon and ask the owner what they had to do to open the salon and stay in business. You may want to make an initial visit or phone call to set up a 30 minute appointment in advance to talk to them.
Look up schools to see what it takes to be a licensed cosmetologists. Just google it. Many state sponsored technical schools have programs that will put you on a path to be a licensed cosmetologists.
Upon finding these schools, call them up and set up an appointment to talk to a representative. They can give you more insight.
Finally, go to YouTube and watch this series called "Soul Food". Yes, this is unorthodox but I believe you should see images of what could be your reality. There is a character named Bird who owns a salon. It'll give you some ideas.
