Hello Matt, great question! HVAC is a great trade to get involved in. The pay is great and it only requires about 6 to 12 months of trade school. This school is definitely not required to work in the field but is usually required to be the lead technician. I would recommend working in the environment for a few months to ensure you enjoy the work, then apply to a trade school to learn more about the industry (and increase your pay).

Hi Matt!
My son has been in HVAC for about 5 years. He found the EPA 608 for handling refrigerants very helpful to get him in the door(https://www.epa.gov/section608/section-608-technician-certification-0). Of course, the nationally recognized certification is NATE for HVAC and some companies require basic certification through NATE to qualify for a job (https://www.natex.org/site/1/Home). My son went to a local vocational school for the certification. The classes took 5 months.
Hope this helps
