Jason’s Answer

After you have done it a while, nothing about it is too hard. You might find one welding process more difficult for you or you find that reading prints isn’t something you’re good at, at least right away. When you get into the field, pay attention to who everyone asks for advice, especially the supervisors. That person is the one respected the most for their skill and knowledge. Buddy up to them. Pick their brain. Learn their ways.

Daniel’s Answer

This may sound odd, but how's your handwriting? A welder's style is as unique as handwriting and until you get into a groove with what is comfortable as you make your welds, your skills are going to be just as unique. Patience is what I recommend cultivating if you plan to make it a career. You're going to make some huge mistakes but being able to learn from them, like most things, will get you the most knowledge from those mistakes and when you figure something out on your own and it applies to what you're doing, it the best feeling. Knowing how to get comfortable so you can make your weld is most important but what goes into being comfortable (gear, seating, torch angle, travel speed, optics) all make a difference on if you go pro or stay at a hobbyist level.

Stephen’s Answer

A lot of welding is a skill, and like learning to throw a ball or ride a bike the more you practice the better you get at it. While you may never forget how to throw a ball or ride a bike if you don't do it for a while you may lose skill and be worse.

Also there's not just one type of welding and they're not all completely transferable. Like throwing a baseball may help with throwing a football but those skills don't really apply when you try to throw a rugby ball.
