Hello, Cassandra,
So, you want to be a graphic designer…..that’s awesome. These jobs have many industries to have a career in….my husband and I used to own Paleo Magazine and we had a wonderful graphic designer who worked with us. If you love a magazine, you can go to their website and see if they are hiring a graphic designer.
Also, the movie industry, fashion, literary, advertising, video games….so many industries use graphic designers.
The real question is then…..what do you love to do? Do you read books, magazines, watch movies, like advertisements, video games, or fashion?
Graphic designers are used in so many industries…..just have fun! And you’ll find your spot.
Good Luck!

Hello Cassandra -
It's interesting to hear that you have interest in graphic design! It's such an exciting and always evolving career that's there's so many different areas of interest that one can do with a career in design. I first started as a packaging designer, creating puzzles and packaging design for Mattel. I got to create puzzles that were even featured in Walmart and target which was pretty exciting as an entry level designer.
From there I moved over to the marketing and advertising side of design, and worked for a real estate company. For them I helped create the branding and marketing for each of their student housing projects that were featured in different areas across the untied states. I helped design floor plans, large murals and exterior signage that went inside our buildings, along with food truck wraps, stickers, t-shirts and everything in-between that could help to market our product and get people to sign leases.
I now work as a brand designer who helps to really increase the brand awareness and evolve the brand within a company. I also freelance on the side doing wedding invitations and stationary - a million different areas of design but all came from having one degree. Try and find something that aligns with what you like to do and I promise you'll never have a boring day on the job. Not many people can say that they're "constantly creating" for their career - how lucky are we?? It's such a fun career!
