Are there any Jobs that include law that doesn't cause someone to be easily burned out?

i have a tendency to overwork myself in almost everything i do, and despite seeing how demanding most law jobs are, i am very interested in it. However, i know how hard it can get to regain momentum after a sudden burn out. #law #job

Thank you comment icon Law is a field that attracts hard-working people and pushes people to work more than what may be healthy for them. So generally speaking, people working in the legal field should prioritize their mental and physical wellness; they should be aware of and take care of themselves. Really ask yourself - do you want to do this? What is your environment like? How is your relationship with your manager? What is the culture of the company? Who are the clients? (Law is a client-driven service, so those factors can determine your day.) A distinguishing factor amongst employers can be a more sustainable workplace environment. If you are not happy, then you should be open to looking around for another job (while also being aware that there are ups and downs to every job). Government jobs may be slower-paced but lower-paid. Hi Auni - there are definitely law/legal jobs that won't burn you out. It really depends on what type of law and the company you work for. I have worked in a law firm and small and large companies and found that the larger company allows for more work-life balance. Unlike a law firm, you don't have to track or bill a client for your time which relieves some of the pressure. I think it is good experience to see how things operate in a law firm, if you're curious but if you are concerned about your time, perhaps look elsewhere. Good luck!

Christopher’s Answer

I see you are in Malaysia, which is important because your local culture is a important influence on the culture of your workplace. In the US, corporate lawyers typically enjoy a better work / life balance than lawyers who are in a large firm. If you are a sole practitioner, you control your schedule but may have to work a lot to build you practice. If you are a criminal prosecutor, you may be on call at all hours. Tax attorneys are very busy in the run up to the April 15 tax filing deadline. So, speaking from a US perspective, it's important to identify what areas of law you would like to practice in and then examine how the specific requirements of that area can impact your work / life balance.

I believe there are, I am a law enforcement officer for the United States Center Bank, our job is to protect the banks assets and staff. This is fulfilling and at the same time low stress. Not sure if you have this in your country but it’s worth looking into.
Thank you comment icon Thank you for answering my question Carlos, i am not sure if there are any in Malaysia but i'll try to look it up. Auni
