Question on deciding my career path
For me, I have been thinking of being a writer/ jobs related to media, is it better for me to work on the field that are related to these fields? Or will it be a better choice for me to try out different industries like business before graduating from university? #undecided #writing #writing-and-editing #business #media #college #career-counseling

Great question!! I think you should definitely stick to where you want to go in your career! The more experience you have in the field the better as recruiters look for that consistency. Take courses and internships in writing and media, and maybe even start a blog or some other way to show off your writing skills. A business class here or there can't hurt but the main goal should be more exposure to the world you want to join!

The great news is many jobs in business are in need of good writers. I would say that as a business professional who can write well, you are probably more marketable. For instance, Content Marketing is a growing sector at the moment and good writers that know how to write for business are in high demand. My suggestion would be to try and scope out some companies that appeal to you. Do a little online research in the fields that interest you and look into the companies and job descriptions You can do this on job search sites like Indeed and Glassdoor.com. Look for job descriptions. See what appeals to you. Then narrow down some companies that you may be interested in and see if you can find any opportunities to do some "job shadowing" or interning at, even for the summer. Hands-on work will be the best way for you to get a feel for the work, the culture and the environment. Good luck to you!

Hey! Great Question! My Advise would be to work in the Field and get as much industry experience as you can - Solid Industry experience is very valuable on your resume . working in media doesn't only involve writing etc, like all businesses they have other business related departments you can move to so if writing doesn't turn out to be your thing you can always do, marketing, sales, PR, Operations etc :) hope that helps
