Are Ivy Leagues REALLY worth it?
Although there is already debate regarding this around the country, I decided to bring the discussion here. Is going to an Ivy League and/or prestigious school REALLY beneficial to one's career? #college #undergraduate #ivy-league #entry-level

Hi,
You have a very good and detailed answer above. My answer will be more brief, I think it really depends mostly on you, your goals, your aspirations in life, education and career. Personally, an Ivy League school was never a thought for me.
I chose to go into the military, go to college part-time at night and did fine with experience + education. I worked for Dell for over 15 years and have been very happy there and in my current job with a software company.
There is a lot of prestige in going to an Ivy League school but it comes at a price.
good luck.

That's a great question. I haven't been in management positions, but from what I've seen in my experience is that an employer wants to know your qualified to do the job & that you're a good investment if they hire you. I really don't feel they look (or care) what college you went to, whether it was a tech or Ivy League. They just want an outstanding, reliable employee.
Having had to pay for college myself, my personal opinion as that it's somewhat a waste of money. They are great schools so I don't mean any offense, however I think how you carry yourself & showing your motivation is really what gets you further in life. Best of luck!

Hi Emily!
You asked a very important question.
My position, after many years in human relations and college recruiting, is that it really does not matter where you go to college. The important thing is that you are following your passion and pursuing a career that is aligned with your personality, interests, and aptitudes, so that you have that in common with others in the field.
Best of luck! Be true to yourself. The feeling and concept of success is yours - and is very personal. Let me know if this is of help.
