Hey Thomas,

Your work environment can either have a positive or negative effect on how you work everyday with your co workers. Positive work environment demonstrate trust, cooperation, safety and equity . Having trust in a working environment doesn't make you feel scared to speak up when necessary. Safety and equity are two standouts of a positive work environment. Working toward a goal, like teaming up on a project, requires a lot of communication. Cooperating where everyone is on the same page and share the same purpose and value makes working on projects a breeze.
When getting to know co-workers model positive and respectful attributes when interacting. Always be a team player especially when working on a team but also voice your ideas when you feel you have one . Lastly, have a genuine and mutual respect for one another.

Lauren’s Answer

Hi Thomas,

This will depend entirely on the company that you choose to work for. Coworkers and working conditions vary from company to company. It is best to work for a company that people are excited to work for and that offers great benefits. There are even some companies that are able to give back to society/communities which is often important to their employees.

At every company, there are a lot of different personalities and you will work with a lot of different people. There may be some people who are not interested in making friends at work but I find that work is a great way to learn more about people and become friends. Over the years, I have made very good friends with a lot of my coworkers, and this is important if you wish to engage in networking professionally. This means that you engage with people across the industry you work in, to talk about pressing topics or get/give advice. You will likely encounter scenarios that are challenging when working with others but that is something that helps us grow and improve.

Ultimately, your work environment is something you have to engage in but you can choose to what level you engage with others, and you can often impact your work environment with your own positive attitude and relationships.
