And, as you look at salary info, keep in mind that "median/average" means some make more. And, some make less. Sometimes, a lot less. Entry level salaries are not the same as median.

Also, some vets work for others, some own their own practice. Some specialize. Some work out in the country, helping farmers. There are a lot of things that could affect salary.

Of the links cited above, I like Payscale the best. You should check it out!

Nirah’s Answer

Starting salaries for new graduates average around 70K. Vet salaries vary by specialty, and by your location. Consult the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.gov) for detailed state-by-state information on salaries and career outlook for veterinarians (or any other career).

It will depend on your city & state, but if you type "veterinarian salary" + (whatever your desired location is) into a search engine, you will find the applicable links to Payscale, Glassdoor, Indeed, & Salary.com.

You can also check out information provided through a relevant professional publication such as the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association. They have an older article here - https://www.avma.org/News/JAVMANews/Pages/150615a.aspx

Lastly, the Occupational Outlook Handbook is a great resource, but the online version will give you a national average for pay. See here - https://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/veterinarians.htm#tab-5

Andria’s Answer

The average vet makes about 70K a year and goes up from there. it will determine where you work as well. Bigger cities you make more, owning your own clinic you would make more. it is important to research what type of vet you want to be. if you specialize in one area like surgical you will make more than an average vet.

Good luck, I am an animal lover and good vets are hard to come by.
