There are respiratory risks but these can be avoided by wearing a respirator. Proper protective equipment on the job to protect your hearing and hands etc. is essential.

They have welding helmets with respirators inside the helmet that blows the welding fumes away from the helmet

I'm going to answer the question that says what is the most difficult thing about working as a welder? In my experience is being out of position and needing to have to use a mirror. When you use a mirror everything is backwards then what you're normally use to.
