While I wouldn't take these rankings overly seriously (It's like asking who is the best baseball player), this list at least has some some solid criminal justice programs.

Hello Khalil -

I've heard very good things about the program at Michigan State and Northeastern University (Boston). I will also put a plug in for my alma mater, Western Illinois University - they have a wonderful law enforcement program there. My suggestion would be to do some online research for the best ranked schools and read as much information as you can about them. If you want to stay in-state, that will help narrow down your choices.
Many schools offer on-line tours of the campus so that could be helpful as well.

There are definitely a lot of opportunities in the criminal justice field.

Hi Khalil. Your question is excellent but I would say that you will be able to answer this question much easier after addressing the following. Where exactly do you want to work/be based out of? Let’s say it is Detroit. Next, determine what PI agencies are based there and go meet them. Most will be impressed that you took the time to actually go find them and might even offer to provide mentorship and/or internship opportunities. You need to ask them if a degree is even necessary. I bet it will not be, and that you will only need to acquire a state professional licensed if that requirement exists there. Honestly, I think that you will eventually find that whatever you learn in college will not greatly prepare you for your career, and that you will find that your real education came from pounding the streets while actually doing the job. But, if in the end, you decide that going to college is something that you want to do, I would go to a school in Michigan for the networking opportunities (your professors, the campus police chief, local law enforcement, guest speakers, etc.) and since much of the laws that will be discussed in your classes will be about state laws in the state that you will work. Also, I would go to a school that affords you with the most flexibility schedule-wise so that you could simultaneously address other issues, such as work, maybe even as an apprentice PI in a local agency. Hope that helps. I wish you the best of luck. Mark
