Hi Aracely. This will vary depending on what company you work for as a marine engineer. If you get a degree in Marine Engineering and have the foundational skills, any company you work for should teach you what software and tools they use. It is a great idea to look for internship before you graduate to get some experience in the field!
Some of the core applications I would expect to to use are;
- Reading and creating blueprints; AutoCAD software is the most common in the industry from my experience.
- Welding Knowledge: there are several different types of welding that can be used in the marine industry. Learning the differences and benefits of each would be a great start.
- Paint applications and options.
- Chemistry related tools and equipment, analyzing water samples.
