Hello! I went to film school so I know a few people who got into this field. They all started small and saying yes to everything. This industry is all about who you know so start taking classes. That will allow you to know a professional (the teacher) and other aspiring voice actors who you never know could blow up and remember how nice you were and help you out in the future. Another route to networking is to check university film programs and their casting calls. Film students are in constant need of talent for their films, animated projects, anything. This will help you build up your resume and reel. And also, you have no idea where those film students are going to go. I went to school with students who are making national commercials nowadays and they will always remember who helped them out. Good luck!

Hello! Good question! Connections are all about good networking, no matter what profession anyone is in, networking is always a skill to tackle. Assuming you have a professionally created voice over demo reel and a website to promote your work because you need these materials for new connections to access your talent quickly and efficiently. I noticed your location and did a quick Google search of casting directors in your area and there are none! Ok, what is the next "largest city"? Nashville. Getting connections is marketing yourself using your materials (website, demo reel, headshots, resume) to target local production companies and casting directors. Connect with them on social media because you will be notified of events that you can attend, essentially becoming apart of the talent community. Next, introduce yourself to the local university film students and professors. Help out in other areas like production crew jobs and become a regular face! Finally, dominate your home town first then explore NYC or LA or Atlanta for phase two of your career.

Hi Holton,

One thing that I would suggest that really helped me was reaching out to alumni from my college. If you go on your school's linkedin page, you can go to "alumni" and then search your desired profession and see those who graduated from your school who work in the field. Reach out to these people and ask them for 15 minutes of their time!
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much for the advice. Holton
