In addition to what has already been said, I would recommend finding a native or fluent English-speaking friend who is willing to have conversations with you so that you can practice your speaking and listening in real-life situations. This helped me greatly in improving my Spanish speaking/listening skills (as a native English speaker).

Consistency and perseverance. Choose an intense course, you can study from home, online, and practice 30 min a day (at least). Make sure you are developing all 4 macroskills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Don't be shy about speaking, you need to make mistakes to learn. Complement your course with phonetics and phonology, there are tons of info and books online. You don't need to sound like a native, you just need to sound good.
