What's better? Being an Obstetrician/Gynecologist or a Pediatrician?
I am currently a Freshman in High School and I am having a little trouble deciding what kind of doctor I want to be, so I want to know the pros and cons of both. #babies #toddlers #career-details

I would continue from Kim's answer, how do you define "better"?
Financially or personal job satisfaction or work-life balance.
Financially OB-Gyn is better than General Peds, but if we compare the amount of time you have to spend in training ,patient management and malpractice General Peds comes out as a better option.
You have to decide what suits your personality and life goals.

How do you define "better?"
OB/GYN will primarily treat adults, and deliver babies. You will deal with reproductive issues, urology issues, glandular issues, as well as some counseling on matters of intimacy, and sexually transmitted diseases. You might do some surgeries.
Pediatrics will cover all types of problems confronting infants and children, accidents and injuries, failure to develop at the appropriate rate, acne, illnesses, etc, and refer to specialists as needed.
I'm not a doctor, but I would guess in pediatrics you would have more normal work hours. However, you could also go into gynecology without handling babies, which would also be more normal. Ob/GYN will pay more. You will probably get more of a warm fuzzy feeling from working with kids.
With all the medical fields out there, why did you narrow it down to these two? What is it YOU like and dislike about each of them? Sadly, the one who needs to make the list of pro's and con's is you. Because what we think might be a great selling point, could be a total turn-off for you! I would encourage you to make your own list, and then again ask for our feedback. This will be an interesting exercise for you!

The good news is that you have plenty of time to decide. Most med students don't decide their speciality until their 3rd or 4th year of med school after completing several rotations in each field. in the meantime you could look at volunteering at a local hospital, which could help give you exposure to each discipline. Good luck!
