Jacques’s Answer

Hi Addison - great question!

What's it like working in computers and networking? The answer is: exciting and always changing! You already know by now how quickly computers can fall behind the demands of the software being developed for them. What was once blazingly fast is starting to really drag as new software comes out, new OS updates are released, all of which rapidly make what was once cutting edge, well, obsolete.

The same will hold true for your skills. You will need to get into the habit of always learning, always redefining the way you do things, always "thinking outside of the box", as it were. If that's the sort of thing that appeals to you, always learning new things (I always viewed them as new toys for me to play around with) and using both sides of your brain to solve problems for your customers, then you're going to have a great time in any computer or networking related career.

Jacques recommends the following next steps:

Keep building those computers!
Join technology clubs are your school.
Look for internship / mentor opportunities at companies that appeal to you.
Try new things! Website development, Databases, maybe there are other things computer related that you might find interesting.
Don't get overwhelmed. You can do this if you keep at it. Everyone in the computer industry was once where you are right now.

Hello Adison! That's a good question and I am glad that you're interested with Computers. Working in computing requires you to be a good problem solver and programmer. Problem solving is very crucial to any area of computing. A cybersecurity professional should have in depth knowledge on various network protocols like TCP, UDP, HTTP, etc. and security measures that needs to be taken to prevent attacks on systems. I would suggest familiarizing yourself with a programming language like python which is very common in Cybersecurity and take a beginner course on it.

Chrissy’s Answer

Hi Addison! It sounds to me like you would enjoy a career in Presales. What is Presales you say? It's the best job you've never heard of! LOL

The name might be a bit scary, but Presales in not about selling, it's about architecting a solution to solve customer's business opportunities when it comes to infrastructure. That solution is what the sales team sells to the customer. Presales is a great fit for people who are passionate about technology, like teamwork, enjoy solving problems and explaining complex concepts to customers in an easy to understand way.

If you like building computers, Presales is the same concept but on a much larger scale. We work mostly with hardware to provide storage solutions for large companies globally. Every solution is unique based on the customer's requirements.

Chrissy recommends the following next steps:
