How flexible is it to be a barista?

I am curious about the flexibility and pay of being a barista. Dose it change depending on where you work.

Barista pay and schedule flexibility are dependent on the location of your store but also the type of store you work for! If you work for a locally owned/small business café the pay is up to the owners (which can be a good or a bad thing!) and if you work for chain business (Starbucks/Peets) their pay is dependent of the location as well. As for schedule flexibility, in my experience you would provide the scheduling manager with the times that works best for you/your availability. However, scheduling managers also have to juggle all the other staff's schedules so (I hope) they try their best to schedule accordingly. Honestly, short staffing will happen depending on your location/how busy it gets/how many staff there are -- so you might get asked to work shifts that don't necessarily match your flexibility. To this, try to champion for yourself or have clear communication with your managers!
