Hi Aurora,

Here are a couple ideas that might help.

Horses are big business. Business is a degree. Perhaps you can get a business degree, then find a role a company that is in the horse business.
Horses need homes. Do you have any interest in designing barns specially designed to solve problems that horses have? Architect / Engineer
Horses need clothes. You would know this better than me. But would you say that saddles and horseshoes and such have changed much over the last 100 years? Perhaps there is some kind of manufacturing/engineering/design degree you could get that would prepare you for a career in making tack and such.
Horses need medicine. Maybe being a vet doesn't interest you. But what about researching new medicines for horses?

What else do horses need? How would you answer this question?

As you go through college in whatever degree you chose, make sure every project where you get to choose the subject matter, you choose horses whenever possible. If your project/portfolio work is all horse related, you'll really set yourself up for a career working with horses.

Take the vet courses that have to do with horses. You may not want to become a vet. But having that knowledge for electives of your degree will help if you want to get into any future role having to do with horses.

Become a vet! I know I know. But it's a good career. So, I'm just going to put it in there. ;-)

Best of luck,

-John

John recommends the following next steps:

Take some business courses to see if you like them.
Take some engineering courses to see if you like them
Take the horse related vet classes
Make sure you go to a school that has a strong horse program.
Explore for a year or two while you take a few courses from different majors and you take your required classes.

Hi Aurora! I'm glad I found your question! Regarding all things Equine, Centenary University is the place to go. I actually attended there for 2 years. It's a very hands on experience with horses, and Centenary is loaded with knowledgeable professors, great horses and great experiences. You actually get credits for riding too which is a big plus! Centenary also brought people from all over the country so I got to meet a lot of great people when I was there. It is also so easy to get involved with horse shows, clinics, etc. This place really allows all their equine students to flourish!!
