What are good career paths for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to make a good amount of money?
I would enjoy doing something that helps children and deals with medical things. I also want to make a lot of money.

Hi Sophia!
Doctors are generally one of the higher-paid occupations in the US and pediatricians are always in demand!
The average pediatrician in the US makes between $170,000 and $199,000 per year.
There is a large variation though depending on where you practice and how long you have been a doctor. Also consider, medical school is expensive so you might not be seeing a whole lot of money for the first few years after residency while you pay off student loans.
Also, if you specialize, the pay often goes up substantially (think of pediatric cardiologists) but the areas you can practice in become much more restricted.

There are at least a few different ways to take care of children in a medical setting! As a general pediatrician, you take care of children in clinic, giving vaccines, treating infections, and managing conditions like asthma; or you can get additional training to specialize in taking care of children’s specific problems such as heart conditions, cancer, or intensive care when they’re critically sick.
You also don’t have to be a pediatrician to make good money while taking care of children. You can be a pediatric nurse if you really enjoy the hands-on aspect of caring for children, administering medications and shots or taking vital signs, for example. Or if you want slightly more independence and decision-making capability than a nurse, you can become a pediatric nurse practitioner. While I don’t know exactly how much pediatric nurses or nurse practitioners make, I will say my nurse friends can comfortably afford houses, new cars, and frequent international vacations, so I assume they get paid well!
