Hi!
Event planning is an amazing way to learn crucial skills for any business - scheduling/time management, budgeting, operations management, etc. Even if you don't go directly into Event Planning and Management as a career option, the skills are transferable.

Event management courses will provide a lot of skills that can be used in all realms of business: budgeting, time management, project management, communication, etc. If event management is something you're considering as a career, the classes will definitely be helpful but won't go to "waste" if you go another route.

Annmarie R.’s Answer
If you have an interest in events I highly recommend you take the course. Ideally the class will outline all the various types of events out there so you can narrow in on those that are most interesting. I'd also suggest you explore jobs in the hospitality industry. Working in a hotel or catering facility will also give you up close exposure to many different events and what going into making them a success from the execution stand point.
All the best to you!

Events are part of a very large industry. Foundational courses are a must, and will be valuable to your growth. Think about the path in events that you would like to take. Are you looking to do social events like weddings and milestone events? Are you more interested in corporate planning for meetings and conferences? Trade show planning? Marketing/event planning? These are all very different areas that require different experience. Choose your path.

An event management course is a great starting point to learn about what the role of an event manager entails for example, time management, budget planning, event marketing and it can also assist in helping you to choose what type of events you would like to work on in future e.g. Weddings, Conferences, Exhibitions etc.

Cedric’s Answer
Event planning has an element of project management and budgeting that are very transferable to other areas. Much like Jessica said in her answer the key is determining what it is that you have a passion about and pursue it from that perspective.

Great question!! An event management course/major can open the doors to so many other careers for you since it allows you to develop and create projects on many different scales. It won't limit the industries you can impact because it's something you can use as an entrepreneur or work in corporations on a project manager aspect. If it's something you research and have true passion for, do it! There will always be a need for someone to implement and see the execution through of projects/events. It's an industry you can truly grow in.
